Hey LEGO, remember when I was a kid who loved your product, had no internet, and all the free time in the world? That was the moment to drop a Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory set. Instead, you waited until 2026, when I'm older, busier, and lucky if I can find 20 spare minutes that aren't spent answering emails or unloading the dishwasher.
But fine. You win. Because this new 2,095-piece set inspired by the 1971 Gene Wilder classic is absolute magic. The chocolate river, the creepy boat, the candy forest with giant lollipops, The tiny golden tickets - it's all here in glorious brick detail. And the minifigs? You get Willy Wonka, Charlie, Grandpa Joe, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee, and two Oompa Loompas. Basically, the whole childhood trauma lineup.
It drops September 18, 2026, for $219.99, which is probably what my allowance added up to over my entire childhood. Do I need it? Absolutely. Will I ever have the time to actually build it? Absolutely not. But as Wonka himself once said: "We are the lego builders, and we are the dreamers of dreams."
I guess I'll be dreaming of free time.
